Radiofrequency ablation is a procedure that uses radio energy to regulate heartbeats in patients who experience irregular heartbeats (arrhythmia).
When an arrhythmia is detected, cardiologist will often run a series of tests to determine the abnormal parts of the heart's electrical system.
Some symptoms of arrhythmia can be treated with medication. For those symptoms that are more persistent, life-threatening or resistent to medication, an electrophysiologist (a cardiologist who specializes in the electrical activities of the heart) may recommend ablation.
