Colorado state law requires that private health insurance or health maintenance organizations cover the cost of screening mammography, based on the American Cancer Society's (ACS) screening guidelines.
The ACS screening guidelines for women at average risk for breast cancer remain beginning at age 40 and annually thereafter. Women with increased risk for breast cancer should ask their doctor about when to begin screenings and how often.
If you receive Medicaid, screening mammography is covered based on the American Cancer Society screening guidelines.
Diagnostic mammograms are generally covered by insurance programs, but you will want to confirm your specific coverage with your carrier.
Financial Assistance
Some financial assistance through state funds is available to assist women without insurance or who are underinsured. Income guidelines do apply.
