PVHS committed to serving Greeley and Weld County

By Rulon Stacey

Poudre Valley Health System offers a broad expanse of high-quality health care services for residents of Greeley and Weld County. This is something that we pride ourselves upon. I promise we will continue to always put you and your health first.

Two years ago, Greeley Medical Clinic, the city's largest multi-specialty physician group that has served community residents since 1933, joined Poudre Valley Health System as a way to continue to provide a full complement of comprehensive, compassionate quality health care services for Greeley and surrounding areas. Peakview Medical Center and Greeley Oncology are among the many services offered under the GMC umbrella.

The history that led to GMC becoming part of PVHS is an interesting story that reflects what has happened in the Greeley medical scene during the last few years. Learn more about this history by reading my blog: visionary.pvhs.org.

As part of our commitment to Greeley and Weld County, we intend to make it convenient for you to receive high-quality health care near your home.

We are building an emergency and same-day surgery center in North Gate Village at 71st Avenue and 10th Street. This is a high-growth area where medical services are needed for easy access for nearby residents. The center will open in early summer.

Our Aspen Club operates in Greeley to serve residents of 50 years or older. The Aspen Club offers health education, screenings, hospital discounts and social opportunities. These services are provided for free or at low costs.

At the other end of life's spectrum, the PVHS Healthy Kids Club works directly with young children and teens - as well as their parents and local schools - to provide year-round health and fitness activities and programs.

If you live in or near Windsor, you have easy access to Windsor Medical Clinic and Poudre Valley Medical Fitness, a state-of-the-art center for people in training, rehabilitating from an injury or illness, or just wanting to become healthier.

PVHS will start an air ambulance service in March for the emergency transporting of patients. Our service will be more focused on serving patients in such high altitudes as Rocky Mountain National Park.

This helicopter service might not be a direct benefit to you within Greeley and Weld County, but it could be a life-saver if you need it while visiting the mountains or elsewhere. We are also pursuing ways to solve other health challenges in Greeley and Weld County.

PVHS recently donated $100,000 to the Weld Food Bank so the organization could purchase a refrigerated truck that allows the food bank to reach more hungry families. Good nutrition is a paramount factor in maintaining good health.

We recently launched Peak Health Solutions to help small businesses in Weld and Larimer counties offer affordable options for health insurance coverage for their employees and families. This addresses a major problem faced by most local small businesses: The lack of adequate health insurance for employees.

Finally - and this is a huge benefit for all of northern Colorado - PVHS is partnering with the nation's No. 1 ranked academic medical center - the University of Colorado Hospital - to create a new health system that will provide unmatched care in the Rocky Mountain west. The new nonprofit organization will be Colorado's largest locally-owned health system.

PVHS is committed to Greeley and Weld County. We're here to keep you healthy and we are here to stay.

Rulon Stacey is president and CEO of Poudre Valley Health System.
