Poudre Valley Health System welcomed its new air ambulance today. The B3 helicopter arrived at Medical Center of the Rockies' lower helipad at 12:30 p.m.

Today also marks Medical Center of the Rockies' fifth anniversary.

"We are excited about the arrival of the new helicopter and even more excited about the level of air transport service we are now able to offer the region," said Dr. Timothy Hutchison, the program's medical director.

Poudre Valley Health System partnered with Regional West Health Services' Air Link air ambulance program in Scottsbluff, Neb. The Regional West program flies a Bell 407 helicopter and has been in operation since 1995. The two programs will rely on each other to offer education, share expertise, develop a seamless flight program and expand the air ambulance coverage in the region, said Hutchison.

"This new partnership allows us to tap into the experience and resources of a mature flight program which has a solid reputation for excellence in rapid transport," said Hutchison.

"We are pleased to partner with Poudre Valley Health System," said Shirley Knodel, Regional West Health Services vice president and chief nursing officer. "Working together, we can provide a greater depth of service and consistency of coverage for patients who require emergency medical transportation. Our two flight programs have a great partnership led by medical directors, Dr. Peter Meyer at Regional West Health Services and Dr. Timothy Hutchison at Medical Center of the Rockies, who have worked together to create evidence-based air transport protocols rooted in safety, quality and cohesiveness."

Air Link at Medical Center of the Rockies recently hired Mardean Haines to serve as the flight manager. Haines has more than 30 years experience in the air ambulance industry serving in multiple roles, including work as a flight nurse for Air Life of Denver and program director for a seven-aircraft program in Flagstaff, Az. Her flight team will initially include 12 crew members, eight nurses and four paramedics.
