Northern Colorado’s top heart clinic joins Poudre Valley Health System
The most experienced heart and vascular practice in Northern Colorado joined Poudre Valley Medical Group.

The 18 physicians of Heart Center of the Rockies (HCOR) are now employed by Poudre Valley Medical Group, a multi-specialty physician group that is part of Poudre Valley Health System. HCOR will continue to provide cardiology services in its current locations in Fort Collins and Loveland, as well as 13 outreach clinics in Colorado, Wyoming and Nebraska.

“Heart Center of the Rockies physicians have worked closely with Poudre Valley Health System for many years in an effort to provide the finest in cardiac care,” said Dr. Todd Whitsitt, president of Heart Center of the Rockies. “We are confident this partnership will be positive for the many communities we serve.”

Specialties at HCOR include electrophysiology, sports cardiology and nuclear medicine. The group has worked collaboratively with area emergency medical providers to develop the region’s first “cardiac alert program,” designed to shorten the length of time between a patient’s arrival at the hospital and opening a blocked artery. This “door to balloon” time at HCOR averages 53 minutes; the national goal is 90 minutes.

The employment of HCOR physicians by PVHS does not affect a patient’s ability to continue seeing his or her cardiologist of choice. Heart Center of the Rockies clinic locations and contact information will remain the same.

The group began in Fort Collins in 1977 as Heart and Vascular Clinic of Northern Colorado, guided by the vision of Dr. Gary Luckasen. Dr. Luckasen still provides cardiology care at the clinic, which has seen nearly 200,000 patients since 2000.

HCOR’s cardiologists have nearly 200 combined years of experience. They practice at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins and Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland.

“We’re excited to add some of the best cardiac physicians in Colorado to the Poudre Valley Medical Group family,” said PVHS CEO Rulon Stacey. “Patients look to us for world-class care, and we know that’s exactly what this group provides.”
