Healthy U series launches with event for bikers who crave more

Who wouldn't want to get some tips from a pro or two?

The new Healthy U event series kicks off the summer season with a focus on biking and how to take performance skills to the next level.

The Rev Up Your Ride event will feature a panel of engaging health experts who will share their guidance about training techniques, injury prevention, what bikers can do to optimize their rides, what the body needs to perform at a higher level and more.

The free event will begin at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, in the lower level outdoor courtyard at Medical Center of the Rockies, 2500 Rocky Mountain Ave., Loveland. Space is limited. To register, go to bit.ly/RevUpRSVP or call 970.237.7101.

Panelists include:

  • Dr. Eric Hess, internal medicine physician and spin class instructor.
  • Dr. Eric Stevens, pulmonologist and avid rower and biker.
  • Tiffany Ankrum, emergency nurse and competitive mountain bike racer.
  • Jimi Killen, registered nurse and former pro mountain bike racer.
  • Tia Molander, physical therapist and cycling enthusiast.

This event is open to riders of all levels, from the occasional weekend rider in the city to the adventurous mountain bike racer who lives on wheels.

The Healthy U event series is a lineup of free community events and discussions presented by University of Colorado Health experts in casual and interactive settings in northern Colorado.

Other upcoming events include:

  • July 11: Spectacular Summertime Superfoods. This event features a panel of health and nutrition experts who will share insight and food samples that pack a nutritional punch. Learn about the foods of the season, what they can do for the body and tips on preparing them.
  • Aug. 15: Secrets of Smart Stretching. This event features hands-on interaction guided by panelists who will share tips and training advice for those people who want to learn more about proper stretching and why it's so important.
  • Sept. 12: Running 101: A guide to running your first 5K or 10K. This event features health and fitness experts who will provide tips and suggestions for those who want to run their first 5K or 10K event.
