Medical Center of the Rockies launches the HealthyU Community Fair: A health fair for all ages

University of Colorado Health is putting the fun into prevention, detection and education this month as it prepares to host the first HealthyU Community Fair in Loveland.
The HealthyU Community Fair will be held from 7-11 a.m. Sept. 29 at Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland. It will feature a variety of free and low-cost health screenings, presentations, demonstrations and informational booths that will address northern Colorado's greatest health needs.
The health fair also will include fun activities for all ages, including a bike safety course for kids to earn a bike license, healthy food demonstrations, kids' safety information, Zumba demonstrations, health-related informational booths, ask a pharmacist, helicopter and ambulance tours and a fall prevention study.
In addition, Colorado Health Medical Group physicians and nurse practitioners will be sharing their insights on a variety of health topics in a series of 30-minute workshops at the fair.
30-minute workshop topics:
- 7:30-8 a.m. Dr. Peyton Taliaferro: 20-minute wellness: A quick guide to basic health
- 8-8:30 a.m. Dr. Kevin Felix: How to interpret your lab results
- 8:30-9 a.m. Dr. Emily Anderson: Common pediatric illness: When to contact a doctor
- 9-9:30 a.m. Dr. Regina Brown: Cancer Screenings
- 9:30-10 a.m. Robert Schulz, NP: Shocked heart syndrome
- 10-10:30 a.m. Dr. Patrick Green: Exercise for your health
- 10:30-11 a.m. Dr. Joshua Snyder: Orthopedic hip and knee
Free screenings include: foot, hearing, vision, vein, heart murmur, heart health, blood pressure, asthma spirometry and lung function for kids, and lung function and pulse oximetry for adults.
One of the blood screenings that will be offered at the HealthyU Community Fair is a $29 blood chemistry screening, which provides information about blood sugar levels, cholesterol, triglycerides, cardiac risk factors, protein, calcium, CO2, sodium, potassium and other concerns.
