FORT COLLINS, Dec. 21, 2012 – Columbine Health System is the first large Northern Colorado employer to offer its employees health insurance through Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield’s new collaboration with University of Colorado Health, HMO Select.

HMO Select is a new product from Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield (Anthem) built around University of Colorado Health (UC Health). Through HMO Select, Anthem and UC Health give northern Colorado employees and their families a way to meet their specific needs with access to a defined network of providers located in the communities where they live and work.

“We’re excited to be able to offer our business community a new alternative that helps their employees to keep a relationship with our community-based providers,” said Kathy McCreary, vice president, payer relations and network development at University of Colorado Health. “We look forward to serving Columbine’s employees and appreciate their vote of confidence in University of Colorado Health’s ability to continue to deliver the highest quality health care while controlling costs.”

Columbine has approximately 600 employees and family members who live in and around Fort Collins. HMO Select’s hospital benefits are exclusive to Poudre Valley Hospital and Medical Center of the Rockies, including UC Health’s urgent care centers and radiation centers in Greeley, Fort Collins and Loveland. HMO Select also includes a large group of independent physicians and Colorado Health Medical Group to guarantee comprehensive coverage for all members.

“HMO Select is an important part of our ongoing work to invest in the doctor-patient relationship and improve the quality and affordability of health care in Colorado,” said Mike Ramseier, president of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. “By collaborating with UC Health, we created a product that creates outstanding care and value for northern Coloradans. We’re thrilled to serve Columbine’s employees and their family members and look forward to helping them maintain and improve their health.”

Columbine Health provides a spectrum of services to address the comfort and safety of seniors, including skilled nursing facilities, both independent and assisted living options, rehabilitation and therapy services, pharmacy and medical equipment.

HMO Select is available to local small group (two to 50 employees) and large group employers. It will include Anthem’s unique benefits such as its 24/7 nurse line, free annual checkups and 360 degree health and wellness programs like Condition Care, which helps members with complex medical conditions receive help following their doctor’s care plan.

Columbine will join HMO Select effective Jan. 1, 2013.
