WHAT:
The American Cancer Society and Poudre Valley Hospital’s Oncology Clinical Research Department are hosting a kickoff event on Thursday, April 25 at 4:00 p.m. at Poudre Valley Hospital’s Harmony Campus to encourage northern Colorado residents to enroll in the Society’s Cancer Prevention Study-3 on June 25, 27 and 29.

WHY:
Men and women between the ages of 30 and 65 who have never been diagnosed with cancer are needed to participate in the American Cancer Society’s Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS-3).

Enrollment in CPS-3 by eligible members of the community will help researchers better understand the lifestyle, environmental and genetic factors that cause or prevent cancer.

The event will begin at 4:00 p.m. and will feature a short presentation and comments by representatives from the American Cancer Society and Poudre Valley Hospital's Oncology Research Medical Director, Dr. Robert Marschke.

Those interested in learning more about CPS-3 or enrolling in the study are encouraged to attend.

Representatives from the American Cancer Society and UCHealth will be available for individual questions following the presentation.

About University of Colorado Health

University of Colorado Health is an organization dedicated to building a healthier community and providing unmatched patient care in the Rocky Mountain West. University of Colorado Health includes Poudre Valley Hospital’s Oncology Clinical Research, which brings innovative cancer research to the northern Colorado region, eastern plains and communities in Wyoming and Nebraska, so that people affected by cancer can participate in clinical trials close to home. From partnerships with American Cancer Society, The University of Colorado Cancer Center (a National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center), to industry-sponsored studies, to Colorado State University, patients are offered a wide array of cancer clinical trial options, with enrollments three times the national average.

About the American Cancer Society

The American Cancer Society is a global grassroots force of more than three million volunteers saving lives and fighting for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. As the largest voluntary health organization, the Society's efforts have contributed to a 20 percent decline in cancer death rates in the U.S. since 1991, and a 50 percent drop in smoking rates. Thanks in part to our progress nearly 14 million Americans who have had cancer and countless more who have avoided it will celebrate more birthdays this year. As we mark our 100th birthday in 2013, we're determined to finish the fight against cancer. We're finding cures as the nation’s  largest private, not-for-profit investor in cancer research, ensuring people facing cancer have the help they need and continuing the fight for access to quality health care, lifesaving screenings, clean air, and more. For more information, to get help, or to join the fight, call us anytime, day or night, at 1-800-227-2345 or visit cancer.org.
