Internal medicine and geriatrics specialist joins Colorado Health Medical Group

 Internal medicine and geriatrics specialist joins Colorado Health Medical Group

Colorado Health Medical Group’s Internal Medicine clinic in Fort Collins welcomes Dr. Xavier Herrera, who specializes in internal medicine and geriatrics.

Dr. Herrera joins a team of two physicians, Dr. Bonnie Nowak and Dr. Eric Hess, in CHMG’s Internal Medicine office at 1106 E. Prospect Road, Suite 100, Fort Collins, Colorado. He will begin seeing patients April 30.

 “I am excited to join Colorado Health Medical Group Internal Medicine clinic,” said Dr. Herrera.  “We share the same values and commitment to improve the health of our patients and our community.”

Dr. Herrera received his medical degree from Universidad Francisco Marroquin Facultad de Medicina in Guatemala and completed his fellowship and residency at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, N.Y. He is board-certified in internal medicine and geriatrics and has been practicing at Internal Medicine Clinic of Fort Collins since 2009. 

In addition, two physician assistants have joined the team at CHMG’s Internal Medicine office. 

Karen Gafford is a physician assistant who has been serving patients at the clinic since January. She worked as a registered dietician for seven years before becoming a physician assistant.

Priscilla Virant is a board-certified physician assistant and has 28 years experience providing primary care services for internal medicine practices in northern Colorado. She specializes in treating individuals with diabetes. She will begin seeing patients April 30.

The medical staff at CHMG’s Internal Medicine and Geriatrics clinic cares for adults and specializes in people age 65 and older. To make an appointment with Dr. Herrera, Gafford or Virant, call 970.392.4752.
