Free program that helps people with cancer begins January 6
Poudre Valley Health System
For Immediate Release
December 28, 2010

Gary Kimsey
Note: Cancer patients and survivors are available to be interviewed.

A free program will get underway January 6 at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins to help people with cancer receive the latest information and support from cancer experts and survivors.

Sharing the Cancer Journey is for people with cancer as well as their families, friends and caregivers. Cancer survivors are also encouraged to attend.

In its 15th year, the annual program offers ways to manage effects of cancer. Information includes nutritional recommendations; methods for communicating concerns and feelings; and other aspects of health care related to cancer treatment.

Presentations are given by physicians, nurses, care providers, and cancer survivors.

Programs are held 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the first and third Thursdays of the month in the Mortenson meeting room in PVH’s lower level. Persons can attend all or, if there are only certain topics of interest to them, some meetings.

Here are the meetings and topics through March 17:

  • Jan. 6: Cancer 101: What is cancer; how to deal with treatment and side effects.
  • Jan. 20: Keeping well in mind and body: Finding balance.
  • Feb. 3: Navigating cancer and nutrition.
  • Feb. 17: Building connections.
  • March 3: Energizing and relaxing: Benefits of movement and massage.
  • March 17: GI cancers from top to bottom: How the gastrointestinal system is impacted by treatment.

Since the program is held throughout the year, meeting topics are sometimes repeated, but many meetings present new information.

Registration is encouraged but not required: 495-8383 or
