How much time does it take?
Adults with Type 2 Diabetes (9 hours)
- First appointment: Meet with registered nurse and learn to use a glucose meter
- Six hours of classroom instruction
- One hour follow-up with a registered nurse; One hour follow-up with a registered dietitian
Children and Adults with Type 1 Diabetes
- Hours vary based on your needs
- Individual instruction

Poudre Valley Health System's Center for Diabetes offers the diabetes management classes and one-on-one counseling at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland and Greeley Medical Clinic.

Will I ever need to learn more about diabetes?
Yes! Diabetes is a lifelong condition. As your body changes and as you make changes in how you live, you may need to change how you manage your diabetes. You will learn more about diabetes through ongoing lifestyle managment programs and by attending the "Fall Diabetes Update," a program PVHS offers each November.
What does the program cost?
Call 970.495.8205 for more information. Most insurance companies cover the cost with a physician referral to the Poudre Valley Health System's program. Check with your insurer about coverage. Medicare covers 80 percent of the cost with a physician referral. Financial assistance may be available, please ask us.
What if I cannot attend classes?
Private instruction is available with a registered nurse and a registered dietitian.
