Family Medicine Residency Program clerkship
The Fort Collins Family Medicine Residency Program offers 4-week clerkships to medical students from LCME-accredited or AOA-approved medical schools. Clerkships are available for fourth-year students (August through February).
To qualify, clerkship applicants must also be applying to our program for a PGY-1 position. Your interview will be scheduled the final day of your clerkship.
Our focus is to provide students with an excellent experience in family medicine and extensive opportunity to become acquainted with our residency program and its faculty, residents, and educational systems.
Students will work with as many different faculty and residents as possible, in several different environments:
- Inpatient adult medicine rounds.
- Outpatient family medicine clinic.
- Poudre Valley Prenatal (PVP) Clinic.
- Lifestyle medicine, counseling and wellness.
- Nursing home visits.
- Procedure clinic.
Students have an opportunity to follow patients in continuity -- from hospital admission to outpatient follow up (or vice-versa) -- usually seeing the patients first and then precepting with residents and faculty.
Students participate in three weeknight calls (5 p.m. to 10 p.m.), and one weekend call (7 a.m. to 10 p.m.) in order to experience our night-float call system and enhance opportunities for initial patient evaluations.
We want our visiting students to have both a quality family medicine experience and the opportunity to enjoy activities in Fort Collins and the Colorado-Wyoming region. We hope the clerkship experience will be both rewarding and fun.
Requirements to be considered for a clerkship are:
- Personal statement.
- Two letters of recommendation.
- Medical school transcript.
- Proof of MMR, Influenza and PPD.
- Proof of malpractice insurance.
- Letter of good standing.
