Celery sticks with peanut butter and raisins. You can substitute almond butter for the peanut butter.
You can also provide in the sack lunch:
- Granola. Put in a sandwich bag for easy access.
- Cherry tomatoes with low-fat dressing. Put the tomatoes a sandwich bag for easy access and the dressing in a small container that your child can dip the tomatoes into.
- Low-fat milk.
Ants on a log provides kids with protein from peanut butter and nutrients from a vegetable and fruit all in one.

Ants are considered one of the most, if not the most, industrious creatures alive. They're always working.
The world's ant populaton is estimated to be 10 quadrillion, or 10,000,000,000,000,000 ... that's a heck of a lot of zeros, 16 of them. In comparison, the world's populaton (as of Sept. 8, 2012) was seven billion, or 7,000,000,000. That's only nine zeroes.
Ants were alive as far back as the Late Jurassic period, 150 million years ago.
The Antarctica is the only continent that doesn't have ants ... too chilly-brrr there for them.
