A Neurosurgery fellowship completed this phase of his training and prepared him for medical mission work in Lesotho.

He returned to a faculty position at the University of Cape Town academic hospital as an attending surgeon. After several years in this position, he decided to train in Plastic Surgery, completing another 3 years of residency at the same university hospital, including a full year in Pediatric Plastic Surgery. He completed additional (optional) training in Plastic Surgery at the prestigious unit at Emory University Hospital under the mentorship of Professors John Bostwick and Foad Nahai.
