The Bariatric Center of the Rockies is a collaboration between Poudre Valley Hospital (PVH) and Northern Colorado Surgical Associates (NCSA). Alongside our bariatric doctors, each team member is specially trained in bariatrics and plays a vital role in assessing if the patient is physically and emotionally ready for surgery.
Bariatric Surgeons Our board-certified bariatric doctors, on staff at Northern Colorado Surgical Associates, are Robert R. Quaid, M.D., F.A.C.S., James M. Dickinson, M.D., F.A.C.S., Stefan M. Pettine, M.D., F.A.C.S. and Michael D. Roller, M.D., F.A.C.S. Each surgeon is a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. The surgical skill and expertise of the bariatric doctors is the cornerstone of our program.
Bariatric Program Manager Lynelle Diede, MSN, RN, is our bariatric program manager. Lynelle has been involved in the care of bariatric patients since 1998. She ensures the program is compliant with all Center of Excellence criteria with a special focus on the maintaining the program's high level of quality and customer service. Additionally, Lynelle oversees the Bariatric Patient Navigator Program, and can assist patients and physicians with any questions they may have.
Certified Bariatric Nurse Becki Mudgett, R.N., C.B.N., also from NCSA, helps prepare patients for the physical and emotional changes that come with weight-loss surgery and is in constant communication with the bariatric doctors.
Bariatric Patient Navigator Contacting Michelle Carpenter, R.N., is the first step in our bariatric program. She helps guide patients through all the steps on their weight-loss journey, alongside our bariatric doctors, including initial inquiry, pre-surgery weight loss when needed/required and surgery.
PVH Dietary Services Our registered dietitians meet with patients prior to bariatric surgery to explain their diet and lifestyle changes and work with the bariatric doctors to ensure the patient follows successful eating habits after the procedure. If necessary, additional appointments can be scheduled as well. They will provide each patient individualized education and tools to guide them after surgery.
PVH Surgical Services PVH has specialized equipment to care for bariatric patients and ensure patient safety throughout their stay. This includes the operating room as well as the inpatient areas throughout the hospital. Treating bariatric patients and their families with dignity and respect is a top priority for all PVH staff. This compassionate team is here to deliver a positive experience for everyone involved.
Psychologists We know how important a patient's mental and emotional well-being is for successful weight loss. As part of our commitment to a comprehensive bariatrics center, we work with several psychologists. Betty Vanek, Ph.D. and Patrick Demarco, Ph.D. evaluate our adult patients to ensure they are psychologically prepared for surgery and emotionally ready to handle the permanent lifestyle changes after surgery. Brian Mesinger, Ph.D. works exclusively with our adolescent patients.
Gynecologist Beverly E. Donnelley, M.D. specializes in obstetrics and gynecology with a special interest in bariatric patients. She's available to help with any gynecological and pregnancy prevention issues both before and after surgery.
