Weight-loss surgery is a life-changing procedure, no matter what age. When an adolescent chooses to have bariatric surgery, the changes that come after surgery affect not only the patient but their entire family.
The team at Bariatric Center of the Rockies makes it a priority to determine that the adolescent is mature enough to be able to accept the life-long changes that come with this surgery. We work with the adolescent's family to ensure a proper support system is in place so the adolescent is successful.
Meeting with Dr. Brian Mesinger, our pediatric psychologist, is extremely important and is a key element of surgical success.
We will not perform surgery if there is a consensus that the patient or family is not ready. We will continue to work with everyone involved to get the patient to a point where they will be successful with surgery.
