A computed tomography scan, or CT scan, uses X-ray and computer processing technology to take detailed pictures of specific parts of your body. The rotating beam forms a two-dimensional picture of your body.
A CT scan may be used to:
- Diagnose health issues, including muscle and bone disorders.
- Guide procedures, such as surgery, biopsy and radiation.
- Identify the cause of abdominal pain.
- Identify the location of infection, blood clots or a tumor.
