The sonographer (a credentialed medical professional who operates the ultrasound device) will move a handheld transducer over the area of the body to be examined. This device emits silent, high-frequency sound waves that bounce off your internal tissues and return to the transducer as echoes that are displayed as real-time images on a computer monitor. These images enable the radiologist to interpret depth, size, shape, and consistency of objects in the image.
