Ultrasound imaging is fast, easy, and painless. You will be instructed to lie on your back on a padded exam table. The sonographer will apply a gel to the area to be studied and press the transducer firmly against your skin, sweeping it back and forth to capture desired images for interpretation. You may return to normal activity after your exam.

A radiologist will interpret your images and send the results to the physician who ordered the procedure.

There are no known harmful effects from standard diagnostic ultrasound.
