Blood Center

Note: All therapeutic donors must now call the blood center and make an appointment. We are no longer taking walk-ins. Thank you.

Did you know one blood donation could save three lives? When you give blood at Garth Englund Blood Center, the blood supplies Poudre Valley Hospital, Medical Center of the Rockies and Estes Park Medical Center.

Who can donate?

To donate, a person must be at least 18 years old (or 17 with a parent's permission) and show a photo identification. New donors must weigh at least 120 pounds and be in good health. Prior donors must weigh at least 110 pounds.

Other regulations exist. These concern major illnesses, pregnancy and traveling out of the U.S.

University of Colorado Health participates in the National Marrow Donor Program. More information can be found at one of the Garth Englund Blood Donation Centers or the Marrow Donor Program at UCHealth.

The donation process

The donation process takes 30-45 minutes. This includes the time needed to fill out health history and consent forms. The actual drawing of blood - a pint - takes five to 10 minutes.
